I have some questions/concerns with my '02 Explorer, EB with 4.0 V6. This is my 5th Explorer and it really is a great truck except for these few quirks. Please let me know if you are having the same issues and if/how you have resolved them:
1- Left front control arm rattle/shimmy when on a descending left hand turn. Had dealer check out and found 'no problems'.
2- Cruise control sometimes doesn't engage and/or re-engage after being shut off by hitting brakes.
3- Clicking noise behind upper dash (around radio unit). At first I thought it only happened when auto temp control(with a/c) was on. Took to dealer and they 'adjusted' the blend door. Now it seems to happen even when auto temp control is off. Doesn't happen all the time but is really starting to annoy me. Many people get into my car and think it is really a great vehicle until they say -"hey what's that wierd clicking noise". Not predictable so kind of hard to get it to happen at dealer when I take it in.
I have really been pleased overall with the vehicle (21K miles on it so far).
This is a really a great site and I appreciate any help you can offer me to get these issues resolved. Thanks in advance!
Sorry that no one has answered you yet. I own a 98 so I can't really help you out. There are numerous people on here that own an 02 so hopefully they will respond.
Honestly, I am not sure what the problem is but my opinion is to keep taking it to the dealership while you are still under factory warranty. Just keep telling them what is happening and eventually they will find the problem. Just don't let it go, if you spend that much for a vehicle it better be almost perfect is what I always think.
I haven't had any of the problems you mentioned with my 2002 Explorer. Did have a 'Service Engine Soon' light recently and it was a EGR sensor. It's my wife's car and she has complained about the way it was shifting and Ford downloaded a new program for how the transmission shifts. I agree with the other comment of keep working with them to get the problems corrected. You may want to try another dealer if there's one near enough.
