Ford Explorer 2002 First Oil Chg Time Frame
I have a 2002 Explorer with just over a 1000 miles on it and have not changed the original oil. I spoke with a Service Advisor and they stated it not necessary to change the factory oil any earlier than the recommended 3000 mile period. In other vehicles I have purchased new I always removed the factory oil around the 500 mile point because during engine break-in, wear metals are greater and the oil needs to be changed earlier the first time. But again the Service Advisor also stated this is not a problem in todays engines. Any thoughts on this from the group? As it is now I plan on changing the factory oil at 2000 mile point. Just don't feel good about leaving the original oil in much longer.
Also had a question about a TSB I saw for the Explorer aboout Oil priming procedures.
It titled: 01-24-6 DEC 01 Engine - Oil System Priming Procedures
Anyone seen this and is there special procedures that need to be followed when changing oil for the Explorer??
Thanks in advance.
