What Temp Thermostat????

Hi guys,

I just bought a 1996 Explorer with the 4.0 V6, automatic, 4x4 and it seams to run a little on the warm side.
What Tempature should it be?
Is it an easy job? or should I take it to a shop?

Thanks!

Larry

I think you will find the books recommend a 195 degree thermostat. I run a 180 in my 91 and have had no problems. It warms up enough to satisfy the electronic controls. Only drawback is marginal heating for the cab on really cold days. If you live in the colder climates, I would stay with the 195 recommendations.

What Temp Thermostat????

I bought a 97 and it had a stuck open thermostat. I pulled it out just to check it cause the book said in 97 they went to some exotic expensive type ($20). Turned out this was just a run of the mill style so I found a 180 in the garage that fit. I have definitely noticed that on cold days it doesn't get as hot as it should. In the summer, the temperature is in the more normal range. I will be installing a 192 shortly for winter.
