I was wondering how many quarts of oil everyone uses for Oil Changes on their Ford Explorer or Mercury Mountaineer with the V-8 engine, my owners manual states 5 quarts and my friends explorer states 6 quarts, i was wondering if that was a typo error from ford anyway all information is greatly appreciated.

 

buy 7 add 5 check it. if its still needs some add half a quart. check it. repeat until full. sure you may end up with a quart or so of oil left over but you can always use it next time.

 

On my '98 explorer with a v-8, 5 quarts puts it a little over halfway between the min and max lines on the dipstick.
