I had the glass up a little to far when i closed the tailgate. I know sounds dumb, but it was sticking if you rolled it all the way down, the only way to get it up, was to lower tailgate and help it while someone else run the button. I looked before i slammed it, and thought it was ok, but pooofff. No i got no backglass, and we dont have one at the yard, nor do any of my friends yards.
So i was thinking of making one of plexi. I could use my 89 to get the shape. Problem ive found is thickness. Plexi is either thinner or thicker, so i wonder who else has done this?
You can get a plexi rear glass from places like Jeg's or Summit, but it is flat instead of convex like the stock glass. I think they run about $140.00 and you will need to cut it to fit. Look in your local junk yards for a replacement, and if you absolutely cannot find one, I have one for sale from my 88 Bronco. Just see my ad in the classifieds here.
yes actualy. i just got done making one outta plexi, it has sum flex but i put a piece of trim at the bottom made outta wood and i attached a rubber flap to that. lol this one is more water proof then the original window. it stays in just fine, and when i open my tail gate i just slide it out if i want no window. but if money permits id get lexan but a peice 1/8 think will run u about 107$ whilea piece of 1/4 plexi is around 57$
Never done this but I hear the rear glass is surprisingly cheap, around $125
I wish... best price I found so far was $250 for the rear for my 90 EB... as for the plexiglass idea, it will work (ask me how I know! ), but its not as clear and it will eventually yellow and cloud up a bit, BUT considering the cost of a piece of plexi at Lowes versus a new rear window?? well........
i work for a plastic manufacturing company. there are differnet brands of acrylic you can get that won't yellow. polycast is a company that makes acrylic we use for boat windshields. you can cut it to rough sixe with a fine tooth jig saw then use a grinder with coarse pad for final size, then sand the edges with 220 sandpaper and hit the edges to take the sharpness out of it. the stuff they sell at lowes is alot more brittle and will probably crack after a year or so .
some guy on this forum made a window out of speedi glass, you can order it off of jegs, its cheap, and un breakable, plus when you roll it up, it just flexes into the top seal, so no need for it to concaved. do a search i bet you can find it.
i was wanting to do this also, however i was also wondering if there was a way to convert the rear window to a canopy style. since my rear motor doesnt work.
