Guys i have a 4.9 liter straight6 in a 89Ford F150. My truck wont turn over. Something is causing the battery to drain and it isnt the alternator, because it has been checked. Can someone help me on other things that might be going on?
Well the battery is getting good juice and unfortunatly me and my father in law couldnt determine the problem. No headlights, no radio no wipers. NOTHING. But we are getting power from the battery. We just gave up and decided to bring it to a mechanic. Spent 6 hours working on it and almost took my 30 aut6 to it.
I added a second negative battery cable from my block to my battery, and the truck turns over better, and seemingly runs just a hair smoother, now. Old cables don't conduct well, and I didn't like the grounding of the block and the maind negative lead connection place to begin with.

If you find you have absolutely no power, even with a boost. I'm talkin ablso'f'n'lutely nothin. Check the main red (usually) ignition wire that goes through the firewall and to the ignition, the connection through the firewall heats up everytime you turn over your vehicle, and at damaging temps when you don't let it cool, Say when it doesnt start you try and try again..so this may be help for someone somewhere down the line it happened to me. By the way, the wire on the engine side of the wiring harness burnt completely off and I changed everything before I found that.
I have a 88 f150 with a 4.9l staight six. My wires were loose too. Sometimes my battery gauge reads 12 and sometimes 15. If your **** doesnt turn over just yell every name in the book punch the sidewalk. Its a good stress thing. Then flop in some skoal straight. after that screw with the wires like miked said.
