Tailgate switches?

Hey, does anyone know if those plastic switches on each side of the rear gate on the inside at the bottom are the door swithes for the cargo lights? I know there is one for the glass but why would there be 2 for the gate?

Tailgate switches?

Well on my rear hatch if you open it up you will see on each end at the sides a small plastic switch that is spring loaded. I do believe that these are for the cargo and dome lights? I had trouble the other day with these lights staying on and I slammed the door a few times and they went off. From reading other sites it looks like other people have this same problem. I personally have not located the switchs in the doors yet but did not look too hard either.

ok do you mean the littel things that slide back and forth with a spring on them? if so i have them to they are not hooked up to any thing they are just there to slide against the littel rubber stopers next to the bottom of your tail light. i think they are to keep the lift gate on track when you shut it. and no they have nothing to do with any lights.

hope this helps

I haven't looked at mine yet, but I believe the pins you are talking about are for the "Door Open" light on the dash. If the back door is not closed, the light will come on just like any of the passenger doors will...

Thanks for the replies, well my X is in the shop or I would take another look. I kinda want to know what switch and where it is operates the door ajar light for the rear hatch. I remeber seeing the one for the glass but not the gate.

The latch on the driver's side activates the cargo light. Whenever I am watching fireworks from my Explorer, I flip the latch closed to turn off the lights. Just be sure and turn the handle so the latch opens back up so you don't get a severe jolt when you try and close it. Just push on one of the crab claws until it latches closed like a closed fist.

Tailgate switches?

Thanks Reber, I will give it a try when and if I ever get my x back. I know I saw the plug for the one that does the glass but could never see the one for the gate. Does anyone know where on the door posts the switches are for the doors?

The door light switches are also built into the latches like the rear hatch is. There isn't a separate pin switch if that is what you are looking for.

Tailgate switches?

Hi Crooqed,
Yes, I have not had a lot of time to investigate since my truck has been at the Ford dealer for the past 2 weeks. I really appreciate those diagrams though. I wish there was one showing the compass and temp electrical and that circuit board....might you have it???

Thanks.

Tailgate switches?

Hi Crooqed,
Hey, thanks again for sending those pics! They really helped me out today.
I took the time to investigate those pain in the but map lights. Well, yes the microprocessor is screwed not allowing ground to the lights and also messing up the switch BUT! I rewired the grounds out of the plug and spliced away the power feed from the courtesy lights. At least now the lights come on with the doors open finally! Im not spending 300 bucks just to get map lights and a switch to turn them on. Thanks again...if I need anymore diagrams I hope I can count on you man!
