I was wondering what other year (if any) headlight buckets would fit in my '70 F250? The pick'n'pulls around here don't have anything this old. I just hate the idea of those rusty old buckets being in my minty, new (used) grille surround. I haven't found any in the catalogs either. Thanks.
One would think that they would be the same up to the '78s when they went rectangular, but I have no idea. I recently took apart a 78 I had with rounds and looked at the buckets. They looked the same as my 71, but I did not do a side by side. I seem to recall something about the 67 or 68s being different. Anyway, this will get your thread back to top and maybe someone can answer for sure.
I have to agree with comet 67-72 for sure and prolly 73-77. I have had a 67,74,77 and now a 79. I know for a fact the 74 and 77 were the same cause I used the whole grill and lights and all.
You will find(as I did) that the 1970 F model has it's OWN headlight bucket. It will not interchange with any OTHER year of these models. Been there.
What it will interchange with is a big F model (F500 or larger-whatever the model numbers are).
I tried a set of NOS buckets dated '69 in my '70 and the only way the headlights would fit was UPSIDE DOWN. Seems the way the bucket mounts, it puts the headlight upside down, in which if you turn on the brights...it will light up the ditch real well but not the road. There are 3 notches that index the headlight ONE WAY only. With those buckets they ended up mounted upside down. No way to make it work. Well, maybe you could do some drilling/welding or such to make the buckets bolt up right.
I went to the big truck yard, found a BIG F model cabover and used those buckets. PERFECT!! I tried to get NOS buckets, but they were NLA from Ford. That's the reason for the junk yard trip. The little truck yard did not have any '70 F100 that were savageable.
