I have had this problem for a couple of years and would like to finally get it fixed. 1996 Explorer XLT 4x4 116K with manual tranny. Once engine warms up and I've then slowed down to idle the idle speed cycles down....It will start at about 1000 RPM and then slide down to around 500-600 rpm, almost stalling -- then it winds back up to about 1000 RPM. I've had a few mechanics look at it and they haven't really been able to figure it out...they've checked the codes and all and done some of the typical fixes of over the years (plugs, egr valve, etc.) but nothing seems to fix it. Could it be the types of plugs I'm using??? Could it be the Idle Air Control Valve? Could one of those new-fangled chips help me??? Could I be any more helpless when it comes to auto knowledge????
All in all this truck has served us really well, but with the miles climbing, I'd like to get this rectified. We need to keep this truck running for the next few years...Any advice, thoughts or cash donations would be greatly appreciated...

Yea, and clean the IAC and MAF... when you clean the MAF clean out the air intake tube to the throttle body too... may as well give the throttle body a couple squirts of cleaner while you have everything off... make sure you use 02 sensor safe carb cleaner on the MAF filaments and varnish safe carb cleaner when you spray the throttle body and IAC.
