2000 f-150 fwd 5.4 when i'm going slow with the windows down i can hear a weird clicking sound coming from the back rear i think...and it can be inconsistant.....is this my parking brake hanging up?...if so how do i fix it?
My truck is in the shop right now, 01 F150 supercrew, I had a clicking in the rear end that grew into clunking. Thought maybe it was a U-joint, took it to the shop (ESP plan) and they determined it was in the rear end itself, week and a half later the truck is done, pick it up this afternoon, don't know the extent of the damage but it sounded over the phone that it was in the ring and pinion. My advice is to check it out quick.
To check the park brakes you remove the rear caliper support and then the rotor. The park brakes are inside the rotor.
The cables sometimes stick and have to be replaced. The lever that pushes against the park brake shoes seizes up sometimes too. To fix that you pull it all apart and clean it thorougly and then put some anti-seize compound on the lever where it pivots and reassemble it.
