is there anything i can do to the straight 6 thats in my 64 truck to increase hp im not really worried about top end peformance but i sure would like to get some healthy low end torque . a little tire smoke if you know what i mean

William is half right. A 6 banger can be made to have serious horsepower, but you will need that fat wallet. The 300 big 6 (not offered in 64) can be made to have the same horsepower as a 302, with an intake change and addition of a 4 barrel carb. For the money though (here is where William is completely right!), I would do a V8. Especially if you have to do any engine swaps. I swapped from a 300 to 390 and haven't regretted it one bit.
The 300 six is a great engine, and not a difficult swap. Quickest, easiest, most inexpensive way to get good power without going to an 8 (and if you go with an 8, I recommend a big block).
