As some of you may have seen on TV tonight the Top Fuel dragster driven by Darrell Russell was involved in a crash in the second round. When the safety safari arrived at the car, Darrell was unconsous, but breathing on his own. He was then taken to St. Louis University Hospital by helicopter. After he arrived at the hospital he passed away.

I was watching this live when it happened. Saw it 3 times on replay, and still can't figure out what happened. It happened fast. Can't tell if it was clutch, motor, rear tire or what. I guess they will let us know after investigating. I had just yelled what a race, when it exploded just after the finish line. Really close race, by the way.
The initial reports I had heard were that the SuperCharger exploded. That just doesn't sound right considering where on the track it happened. That should only happen at full throttle. With 6000+ possibly 7000 h.p. on 498 cubic inches, I guess about anything can happen. If it was engine related, NHRA will probably cut the nitro % again.
