95 expl jbl ?

I was thinking about replacing my jbl head unit with an aftermarket unit because my cd player broke. i've heard that you must bypass the original amp. has anyone done this? do you lose/gain power/sound quality. will a new unit still power all the speakers or is a seperate amp needed?

Haven't done it myself, so I don't know what the sound quality would be. You can buy a harness designed to bypass the amp and still use original speakers, try http://scosche.com/scosche/ Why don't you replace the CD changer instead? If I'm not mistaken you can use any CD changer that uses an FM modulator.

I have had a Kenwood head unit in my 97 EB for a ocuple years now. Works great, sound quality is the same. You just need to splice the factory harness and connect it to the appropriate connections on the new head unit harness. My head unit had two pairs of line level RCA's on the back. I sent a pair back to the sub amp and it works fine. Hope that helps some.
