Dear members
today while I was driving,my service engine light came on, so I went to my nearest parts store and bought myself a obd two scan tool , and I must say that I really was empressed with how easy it was to use.
My question is this, the problem code read as such, P1506 and the book says Idle Air contol Overspeed error, what does this mean and which part should I start to look at, I already started by cleaning my IAC valve, and I am not sure if I am going in the right direction any help on this topic would be much appreciated thanks.
dear lxman
thankyou for the quick reply to my question, and yes the truck did idle fast and no I did not reset the codes. What I did do is erase the trouble code from the computer's
memory, I hope that was ok, also lxman if you know how I would reset the codes could you let me know. Thank's again coho ps. the truck is a 4.6 triton 2001 f150
also the truck still idles fast.
If you erased the codes with your scanner, then that is OK. That is the best way to do it. I wonder if you may have a vacum leak somewhere like the PCV hose assembly. They are known to crack back behind the intake.
You could try unhooking the battery for about 15 min to completely reset the PCM and it may relearn the correct idle.
Did cleaning the IAC fix it?
I've seen a few lately with sticky IACs causing a high idle.
Cleaning it is usually a temporary repair, replacing it is a better cure.
I just disconnected my battery for a while and I will check for vacum leaks, and the idle did drop by almost one hundred rpm but maybe it is where it should be now and that is at 750 to just under 800 in gear but it jumps to 1000 in park and netural and it is a little less than before.
best regards phil
