im installing a system tomorrow as allmy parts finally arrived but i need a couple last sugg. i have 3" speakers up front on the dash facing up w/ 2 tweeters calrion, and 2 component mb quarts rce 216 6.5" that i don't know how i should mount, they will be in the back and take rear channel signals as i assume they have lower signals and bigger is better. all speakers will run off a clarion 400 4 channel amp. my question is should i mount them in the upper rear corners of the truck some how and point them towards the driver?? or should i mount them beside the back seat and point them at eachother?? is this gonna be enough speakers for a awesome system?? or shoulkd i get 5.25's in the front also?? its just ill need yet another amp. i have 2 kicker 10"l5 i will also install to a clarion 1000w 2 channel amp. which brings my last question.. POLY FIL. do i glue this stuff in?? its in a sheet form, but im scared of it burning or getting stuck in thge subs, Also its an 1" thick do i just completely cover the inside?? its a sealed box. thank you
IMO, put the components up front in the doors or kickpanels, and use the 3" speakers for rear fill. You will most likely be happier. It may be more work, but it will be worth it. If the box is built to match the subs requirements, Poly fil isnt even needed.
I agree with kens64 on the front install for the components. Your best speakers with the best output should be up front and aimed strategically at the listener. If you are a fan of "rear fill", use the smaller speakers in the back, since you already have them. But realize that just because Ford(and others) put speakers of differing sizes in certain places doesn't make them ideal. Personally, I would try to get my money back for the small speakers, or trade them for some accessory that I needed. Those are nice components, and with the subs should be a very decent system. What are the exact RMS ratings of those amps, and how are you intending to wire everything? It's critical that your subs be wired correctly for best performance of the subs AND amp, and also to NOT abuse the amp.
poly fill is good at bringing the resonant frequency of the box down. the lower it is the better it is for sound quality. almost everybody that competes in sound quality and places has there boxes rolling off at around 32 33 hz. i've found that the stuffing is easier to work with and cheaper. you just stuff it in there and then put the sub in the box as opposed to the sheets where you have to glue them and let them dry before you put the sub in.
Its also good for fooling the sub into thinking the box is slightly bigger than it is. If you dont have room for a properly sized enclosure, you can get away with a slightly smaller one and stuff it with the proper amount of fill.
