High beam headlight problem

I just purchased a 2002 Explorer. When I hit the high beam switch, the blue indicator light comes on in the dash display, but the high beams do not come on. I've checked the bulbs, fuses and circuit breaker...all to find nothing wrong. I have not been able to find the repair manual, so I do not have a wiring diagram. I feel it might be the switch, but would the blue indicator light come on if the switch was bad? iAny ideas??

Welcome Bob. I don't have any diagrams for 02, but my service manual for 2000 show that the indicator lamp is off same circuit as lamps. So yes, if same as 2000, if you have an indication, you should have high beams. Have you checked the sockets? Do you have a voltmeter to check voltage at the light?

Thanks for the quick reply. I did pull the light assys. out and checked the voltage at the sockets and I have "0" volts. The sockets look very good. I even installed a new lamp in the left one and still nothing. I will keep digging and if you come up with anything, please let me know. I appreciate your reply.

Thanks again, Bob

I remember a post a long time ago on here, where someone was having problems with their Explorer headlights, and it turned out to be some sort of "lamp out" module was the problem. I think it is included in the circuit to the headlamps to tell you when a lamp is out, but it turns out that it fails itself, knocking the whole shooting match out. I don't know if you have this light monitor or not. Maybe someone else can elaborate.

According to the 97 wiring diagram the LOM only monitors the low beams. Does this have daytime running lights? If this was a 97 with DRL's i'd take a look at the DRL module. The 97 is wired from dimmer switch to DRL module to headlights, yours might be the same.

There is a seperate fuse for the high beams, a 15amp fuse in the interior fuse box, location 33.

Also, there is a splice that the indicator and lights tie into. Its splice #S111 and its located 100 mm from Top of ground G101 which located on left half front of engine compartment, near radiator/

Thanks for the information! I checked the fuse block inside the vehicle and the owners manual, and I do not have a location # 33.
I will check the splice out tomorrow. Thanks again !
