I'm gonna get some chuckles on this one, I'm sure -
Sometimes when I start the engine and have dash lights on I'll notice that my blue high-beam indicator is on. I'll check (it could be one of the children), but I rarely find the switch in the high-beam position. When I do turn on the high beam switch, the blue indicator disappears, though it's function is correct - the light now indicates backwards even though the lights are functioning according to the switch. Only the dash light is wrong.
So, with the switch in the "low" position, my 16-year old son says "just hit the dashboard, dad." I look at him, hit the dash, the blue light goes out, and everything is normal again.
This was a couple years ago, and only lately have I the humility to expose my opinionated chassis electrical system. But I don't want to tear apart the dash to chase a little blue light!
Question: should I keep hitting the dash to fix my problem, or is this something anyone else is willing to admit having encountered?
Does your E-350 have DRL (daylight running lights) module? I can't see this happening unless someone rewired the truck or installed aftermarket headlights. If you do have DLR then that module controls the light in question so it may be defective. Can't explain the banging on dash except for a bad connection somewhere.
Heck I'd just keep on hitting it. My work truck I have to hit every time I start it to get the guage cluster to work. An they've replaced it, modules, wiring everything no change. One good wack an it works everytime.
