my ignition switch burned up on my 92 bronco! In order to pull it, do i use the lock and tumbler or what??? I haven't had much time to get-r-done yet and i want to have an idea of what im looking for before i do! can someone please explain it or send me a good diagram or something??? Thanks!
If you have a drivers side air bag then it wil be a bit different than when I pulled mine. I took off the steering wheel center. Unscrewed the sterring wheel main bolt and that allows you to get to the ignition. You should be able to see the ingnition at this point and if you look on the lower front side of the inside of the ignition housing you can see a small stud holding it in place. You turn the ignition about a 1/4 turn then push in on the small stud and pull it out. Most auto stores sell replacements for under 40 bucks but will likely have to order it.
so... the ignition switch isn't near the lock and tumbler??? is it further down in the steering column?? because when it burned up... smoke came out of the key hole!
I removed the assembly by putting the key out of the lock position but before turning on ignition, pushing in the spring loaded pin underneath the assembly and pulling out TADA 1990 Bronco

on your 90, you pulled the the ignition switch with the lock and tumbler?? And what?, did you turn the key to accessories in order to pull them as a combo??? Whats funny is that Ford had a recall for this same problem... stating that it caused fires in many vehicles up until 91 models... i'll be danged if mine ain't a 92 with the same problem. oh well...such is life. i guess i'll just have to GIT ER DONE!
Yes the lock and tumbler came out together. I thought I had an ignition switch problem but turned out to be something else. (Selenoid) If you get under the wheel you can look at the pin and push it in with something like a punch. The whole switch was something like $30. I'm not sure what might have been smoking on your truck, and there was a fire hazard related to that recall. Be sure you fix it.
