Cool Stereo removal

How Is The Best Way To Remove The Stereo From A 91 Explorer? I Tried, But Can't Get The Radio To Slide Out Of The Casing.

unsure what you have tried, but, if you don't want to buy the removal device, get a heavy metal coat hanger. Snip the "middle" out of it, meaning, as you look at the hanger where the shoulders sit, snip the hanger hook off so you have about 5-6" of the shoulder area left. Then come down to the bottom of the hanger, usually the pant hanging area, and cut it evenly with the shoulder piece, you will be using both ends. Bend them so they square with the holes on either side of the stereo and insert the ends into the holes about 1 1/2". Giving you milk crate handles. This will disingage the latching tabs, you will have to wiggle the stereo left to right and pull easily (its a tight fit). It should slide out nicely. I've used this homemade method on my 89 stang and 97 Expy. If you want to buy the removal device (about $20) from any auto store, use the same method of removal.

91 Explorer needs to have the dash cover over the radio removed and the radio unbolted. The holes are dummys if I remember right. Panel comes off real easy. If you have the easy slider -w- the 3 holes, Wal-Mart has the tool in the Auto Dept. for $10.
