I do not know if I have a flexplate or starter problem. I have a 302 That the starter just spins and doesn't engauge the flexplate teeth. How do I find out wich flexplate should be on the engine? I have replaced the starter twice to no avail. I suspect that the teeth on the flexplate may be bad. Please help if you can.
Welcome to the forum.
When you remove the starter, you should be able to look into the hole where the starter goes and examine the teeth.
If it is an automatic, you will need a new flexplate if the teeth are bad. If it is a manual tranny, then you can take the flywheel to a machine shop and they can put a new outer ring on it.
