Okay, I have Bridgestone Duelers up front and Firestone Radial ATX tires in the back (way I got it, don't blame me)... and while they all have plenty of tread, three times now, going about 30-35, I've hit the brakes and done nothing but slide.
I'm saving up for new tires, but I don't know what tires I'm saving up for... I need something that will give me traction in the 3 months per year that it actually rains here, will do well on freeway and loose gravel roads, and preferably something in the 31" area... Stock wheels or otherwise, I don't care, just tell me if they require new wheels (my stock wheels are 15 I think).
Also, is there anything you guys can suggest for helping traction in the meantime? (I have a '90 Bronco with the 351, so the thing isn't ultra-light... I don't understand *why* it's not gripping, unless it's just poor tire design...)
Since all ATX and ATXII tires were under Federal recall I suggest trading them in for something new and free
It should say "wilderness atx" and all those Wilderness tires from the ATX forward are lousy traction tires on anything else but dry pavement. BFG (not the mud) are good rain traction tires. I have Wild Country XTX (AT) tires on my F-100 and they are pretty good in the rain and dirt, but, not too hot in GA (clay) mud.
If you want a tire that works great on the road, wet or dry, and can handle anything most A/T-type tires can, you at least need to look at the Michelin LTX M/S. I switched from BFG A/T's to the Michelin's on my '85 Bronco. They were quieter on the road, didn't make the Bronco pull to the right constantly like the BFG's did, and took me everywhere off-road the BFG's did. They just don't have the cool "aggressive tire" look.

They don't say "wilderness ATX" they say "Radial ATX"... I just double-checked... BUT I just looked... according to This Article the Radial ATXs are included... so how do I go about getting replacements? After all, it is a very frightening thought, what if one blew out and my bronco rolled over?
Yep, those are covered. I forgot the exact wording on the tire sidewall, basically, all the same tire. I am really surprised they lasted that long, they are very old for a tire.
Just go to your nearest Firestone retail dealer and tell them you want them replaced. I think the Ford replacement program has ended for all vehicles. On the exchange you have to take what they have on stock at the store, though every store I knew, let you upgrade in size for a min. amount of money if you wanted to.
So I'm basically going to be forced to go with Firestone tires as replacements? Or can I go to any shop that sells Firestone along-side other products?
Also, the tires lasted because the truck sat for ~3 years... They still have quite a lot of tread too (I'd say ~3/8")
