'93 E-150 Cracked Manifold Replacement
This forum is great, and I really appreciate all the help and advice I've received from just reading these messages (this is my first post). Thank you very much for all the help you guys.
Welcome to the site. I know what you mean about the plugs. I have a 96 with the 5.8 also, and I just changed the plugs and ignition wires. I've never tried welding an exhaust manifold, but then I can't weld too good either.
You could probably pick up one at the bone yard, but the problem with exhaust manifolds is that they get brittle with time. The constant warm-ups and cool downs take their toll. I suppose you could weld it if you're good at it. I'd be real careful with the head surface. If the crack wasn't near the head, you might get away with it. I've used C-clamps too fix them. if they're in the right spot too.
If you're going to change the manifold, I would use plenty of heat on the bolts, nuts, and studs. Some of the newer epoxies are amazing too, if you want to give them a try first...for a patch.
Good luck on this one, and let us know how you make out. Mine will probably be coming due soon. So maybe you'll be the one with the tips.
