Single wheel flat deck???

I'm thinking about taking the box off my truck and mounting a Utility deck Flat deck I would then mount my GN/ 5th wheel, and auxillary tank to it. Anyone see a website with those flat decks. The only visual problem I see is that I have single wheels. They look good with duals but there must be a good looking deck for singles. thanks

Most truck centers will not sell or install flatbeds on single rear wheel trucks. They state that it would be too easy to overload the truck with the larger bed. Also the flatbed can extend the load platform beyond the width of the tires creating a more unstable vehicle than one with dual rear wheels.

A "western hauler" style body might be more suitable for your needs. It's a little more expensive, but is better looking. They also offer a lot of storage box options. I am posting a couple of links to some sites of companies I like.

B&W Custon Truck Beds

I don't know if the flat beds and western hauler bodies are heavier than the stock bed. If so, you would be lowering you hauling capibilities also. I think you could come up with a good gooseneck or fifth wheel hitch and a slanted auxiliary fuel tank to work well with your stock bed. Check out B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch that also converts to a fifth wheel hitch. It would work good in conjunction with Transfer Flow's wedge fuel tank (Wedge Tank).

thanks for the links. I've seen a few driving around and I don't know who makes them. I'm finding I hardly ever use the truck unless I'm towing something, and the box is usually empty, so I figure why have it I have a sliding goose that converts to a 5th wheel using the same tracks (DSP ) Our local Power company have utility single wheel trucks. I'm not looking for a super wide one basically something that retains the outer edge as the box. Thanks for all the extra thought you put into your answer re over weight etc...

On Highway products web site under flat decks they have a DODGE RODEO truck that is showing the deck setup I like. My current Box is 7 long and they have a 7' x 7' version.

Nice looking bed.

Aluminum is also a good choice, it'll cut down on weight. It's 1/3 the weight of steel, but unfortunately about twice the price of steel also. If you go with a flatbed, pay extra attention to the fuel filler neck. Make sure it has some good drop down to the tank. If it is too level, the fuel will foam and slow down fueling. I had a F-350 with a custom flatbed which I had to park on a block of wood to get a decent slope when fueling.
