The Chrome covered (actually plastic) door trim on my 98 exped is coming apart and I need to replace it on the drivers door. Can this stuff be purchased somewhere other than the dealership? Facing the drivers side door it is the channeled trim that runs along the right edge of the door.
Sounds like you are describing door edge guard, which is not a Ford product, just something some people will install themselves and some trim shops offer. Years ago it was a popular item but isnt used much these days. You used to be able to buy it at almost any parts store. It comes in rolls and just cut to fit.
No, he means the chrome-type strip that runs the length of the Expy. Mine too is really looking bad. I replaced the fender flares with new chrome ones, but that strip that runs the length is really bothering me. I will probably just go to my favorite body shop and have them order it for me. That would be my suggestion to secretagentman. If it is a Ford part, they would want way too much for it.
I would ask any friendly body shop if they can get it for you and install it. Probably will do it for $100 or so with parts. Don't go to a shop that just does insurance claims, they'll want as much as a dealer.
you could simply remove it all together all the way around and not replace. it all is held on with double sided tape. on a warm day, park in the sun for awhile letting it get warmed up. then use a blow dryer and peel it off. goo gone used sparingly will get the residue, then wax as usual.
if you feel you must have it on your doors, then you might opt for the body colored eddie bauer door trim- does away with the chrome altogether. wreck yards come in handy for these types of parts.....
