newbie with a question????????????
Hey guys and gals, I'm new so if this is not posted in the correct area please forgive me. That said, here's my problem. I have a '96 Ranger STX with a 3.0L, manual tranny, and electronic shift 4X4 which does not work, never really has. It went out the first time when the truck had about 10K miles on it. Other than that the truck has been great, 200k miles and still rollin'. Now, I'm wondering if it's possible and cost effective to replace the electronic 4X4 with a manual transfer case and lock out hubs? Fixing the exhisting system will cost upwards of $1000. Any help would be great!!

Welcome to FTE! 4X4 isn't my area of expertise, but I have read that many people have great success and save lots of money by switching to the manual locking hubs. I haven't heard anything about the transfer case though. Someone should come by soon who knows much more than I. Good luck!
