I want to lower my EXPEDITION but can't decide between going a 2"-3" or a 3"-4". I have coils all the way around. What do you think? does anyone have any pics of similar setups? Also is one coil better than another for ride and handleing? Belltech? DJM? Other?
I would suggest weighing the fact of lowering your Expy, a rough bouncy ride, plus if you go to 20-22's and performance tires, it will ride like a rock, comparitively.
Let's go over this again ------If you just lower your expy 2-4 inches with the correct springs then the ride will improve! Why? because now you won't be yo-yo-ing as much-more like a normal car now and not an suv. If you get 22" wheels-well then I don't know because to keep the same tire diameter you'd have to get a 45 or 40 series tire . I do know that my 3 inch lowered expy with 20 inch tires has a ride not one bit "worse" than stock. I also have Koni shocks which gives a better ride than stock shocks.
Hey tonum24, just a question, have you tried putting about 4 people and stuff for a weekender in yours? My buddy did his like you said and it rode nice till he tried to load it, then it got a little rough. Not knocking what your saying, just wanting to know if you have experienced this.

~~~~~~~~~~~~Yes High Horse-my system has been together for over a year now - with the 20 inch and with my 17 inch-winter set up-we have loaded up with 8 people or with 5 people and "weekend" luggage in the back. The sidewall height on my tires is 6 inches, stock is 7.4 inches. It's not a huge difference-and remember too,that since my tire is 305 wide as opposed to 265 the "load" is spread out more laterally. A lowered spring still gives a stock like ride w/o the high bounciness. Springs support the vehicle -so shocks are the key to ride quality. I always recommend Koni shocks because they are double tube shocks which give a little better ride than a single tube (Bilstein's). If a loaded Cadillac can still give a good ride then a loaded Expy certainly can. As for 22 inch wheels though? Now your on the edge.
Thanks tonum24, I don't recall him using Koni's. I'll bet he used some cheapos with the kit. I will recommend that to him, I told him those 22's would not help. Not enough give in he sidewall for the weight. He curbed one anyway....hahaha. Anyway we don't have to worry about winter treads here in FLA.
