thats really going to depend on what you mean by a great mudding engine, and I am serious if you want a engine with lots of bottom end or if you are mud dragging etc, I am using a cleve in a mud drag truck but I run a 4500 stall, and shift at 7000 so it is basically built like a drag motor but if you are bogging, and don't have a lite enough truck to stay on top then you need to build for lower torque range, also how far into this engine do you want to get.
for basics without knowing what you want to do, a 4bbl intake, and carb headers, and a good ignitions system, and a cam tht is appropriate with your desires on the engine, and matches your intake
