Just wanted to share my experience with this problem. I own a 97 crewcab 1ton. Truck worked Flawlessly then dead in the water. Would crank over but would never fire, the water in fuel light came on. So we changed the filter (long overdue), change the air filter (long overdue). We also drained the fuel filter bowl, checked all the usual things with nothing being the problem.
My buddy just changed the CMP sensor for another friend and said this would be the next choice. BINGO that was the problem and truck started right up. The thing that threw me was it never gave any signs. Just dead in the water at the end of a days work.
Thanks to the board for all the info. Special thanks to JohnDiesel, Saved me a ton of money taking it to a shop.
Mark, I'm glad that you solved your problem. This is so common that the links I post for this issue have been viewed almost 4000 times since I created them about 1 1/2 years ago.
yes, we read your post on the subject. I was a little leary, since it gave no warning, but we got the part for $60.00 from a friend at a dealer so i couldnt beat the price. Thanks again.
