Hello,
I spent a good chunk of my afternoon doing repair work on the Touch Drive 4wd system on our 1993 Explorer. I took the motor out, took it apart, cleaned its innards and put it back on. There are several warning lights on the dashboard that are supposed to come on when the car is first started as a test. Are the 4x4 lights supposed to come on at that time? Mine don't. However, when I touch the 4wd button, its light comes on and so does the light on the dash. Nothing seemed much different than before, though. Is it possible for the lights to come on without the 4wd actually being engaged? I would like to think that my problems are solved, at least for the time being. Any advice would be appreciated.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Nov-02 AT 07:25 PM (EST)]I had a 92 before and I don't remember the 4X4 lights comming on by the buttons. I'm not sure of the others located next to the other warning lights, it's been too long (a year and two months )

Sounds like from what both of you have said that everything's probably ok. This Explorer used to be owned by my in-laws, and my father-in-law said that you don't usually notice any difference with the 4wd on unless you're on dry pavement taking a curve. He advised keeping dry pavement use to a minimum and at less than 30 mph if there's no way to avoid it. I can't wait to take it out somewhere. Thanks for the help.
