This last week when I was replacing my radius arm bushings, a ground wire broke that was connected to the radius arm bracket. The wire went from the bracket to the body on the passenger side. The wire was like braided copper wire that must have got brittle after 12 years. So I was wondering, will this cause any problems in the future with a missing ground wire? I have driven driven the truck around and everything seems to work right, but I just want to make sure this ground wire won't cause any problems.
it is there for a reason. if ford could save the cost of that one part on a million vehickles they wouldnt put it on there. i would think you could buy it at a ford dealer or an electronics store.
You wouldn' t think the body would need to be grounded to the frame because its bolted on- but it helps lessen radio interferance.Police cars have them on the tailpipe hanger bracket. You will find these on all body on frame Ford trucks.
If you have auto push button 4 wheel drive then I would replace it. It is likely there to provid good ground when engaging the front hubs into four wheel drive. If you have one on the other side you should be good to go but a replacement of both should be on your to do list if it looks like the one on the other side is in bad shape.

I was under the assumption that there were no such things as electic hubs...in fact I'm pretty sure they're all mechanical in nature. Push button 4x4 just means the transfer case has an electric motor to move the range fork and hub to accutate four wheel. Just FYI
body 9955 yes the hubs are mechanical and yes thepush button 4x4 is electrically actuated. some new auto hubs are vacumn operated though
BOJOFASO...That would be cool to see...definately a good idea and better soulution than auto hubs for people who don't want to get out to lock up. Do you have any info on these? Thanks.
im not sure what year the hubs are on but i believe they are on 2003 2004 f 250 and f350 trucks. i think they are either full manuel or auto at the same time. when you have them in auto and engage 4x4 vacumn is sent to the hub and a diafram is held in which keeps the hub locked.
Worked on quite a few vac. hub Rangers & full size F150s-o rings seal inner and outer part of hub bearing assem. As I said WORKED ON QUITE A FEW- Enough said!!!
