bleeding brakes

Can I use a vacuum pump to bleed brakes?
Sucking from the bleeder screw is there any special way that it needs to be done. I'll be doning this by my self so I can't be pushing on the pedal, opening and closing the bleeder as I have done in the past.

It works fine that way, make sure to take the cap off the reservoir, and make sure you dont run it dry!

Also.....I have been using teflon tape on the threads of the valve, not for sealing but
to be able to remove or loosen the bleed screw without breaking or stripping. Haven't seen any ill effects yet.
Does the break pedal need to moved at any point to remove any air from that potion of the mechanism?

Just get a good suction on the MitiVac, then lossen the screw. Sometimes it help to go push the pedal in. Then keep pumping up the vac and adding fluid. Don't even let it run dry. I like to use a lot of fluid and flush the system at the same time. Gets rid of the corrosive's.

When I rebuilt my system, I used all new parts. To get the MC bled, I used a vac setup, but it helped having someone push on the pedal in the beginning. There was so much air, it was hard to get it started without someone pushing. Once the MC and lines to the prop valve were full of fluid, then it went smoothly. I just kept filling and pumping, and pretty soon it was done. I only had to bleed it once, and it stops good enough to lock up all four.
