Could some one please help me fiqure out the max. I could tow with my F 150?
Towing distance: Less than 50 miles one way.
Towing Approximately 2 times a month.
Specs on my Truck:
F150 Shortbed 4x4, 5.8L 351 W HO, 3 speed C6 Trans, 30x9.50x15 tires.
Axle Code H6, Also Truck is set up with Factory Towing Package.
It is a 1986 and I just got finished pulling a 10,000 Lbs Track Hoe, 45 miles with no problems. I was able to pull it at 45 mph with no swaying. Several stops on inclines (Stop signs), Just shifted into L1 and manually shifted the 3 speed automatic Transmission to gain max. Traction.
Normally taking off isn't the issue, it's stopping. If I threw the 235/75's back on my truck i have no doubt it could tow 10K+, it's just I'd be on the brakes HELLA EARLY (even with trailer brakes)
If you have the owner guide that came with your vehicle, that should say if you look under the "driving section." If your truck didn't come with a manaul, then I can't help much. Ford does have a towing guide on their homepage for currents, it shows their rated towing abilities...I wouldn't want to go too far past them. The longer you tow, the hotter the tranny becomes, so don't tow too long, or get a cooler. If you don't have stiff shocks in the back, that's not a bad idea.
