98 EXPY P0174 Error - Looks like common problem, Please help

98 EXPY P0174 Error - Looks like common problem, Please help
Hey all,
I have a 98 Expedition with just a hair under 100k miles.
The error light came on 2 weeks ago and they replaced the fuel filter, 2 days later the engine light came on again while going uphill on the highway.
From my research it looks like a common problem except this.
From what I see, the P0174 error code comes with the P0171 error code in tandum. That is not my case, my cousins repair shop says that it just comes up with a P0174 error.
I looked online and told him to check the PCV valve, he is getting one in hopefully today. Any other ideas, These are older gentleman and god bless their hearts they can tear apart any of the older cars but I think they may have problems with the newer ones.

One more problem, Pinging while going upill
Hello again,
One last thing, I get pinging going uphill. Again, 98 Expedition, 100k miles.
I read that a new air filter by K&N filters would be a great help.
What are your thoughts and experiences.

I have a Navigator 98, it also has the P0171 and P0174 code, I checked on the PCV valve and there was a vacuum leak. However when I fixed it, the CEL light lights up again, I had to bring it to Ford and they found that the Intake Manifold gasket has a vacuum leak. I'm going to replace it tomorrow and see what happens.
