I have 3" banks downpipe that already has a inlet for the egt sensor. Normal driving I see 800 easy when towing a light trailer about 5000 pounds I see 1000- 1150. Is there something seriously wrong or could it be my gauge. It is a banks pyromenter. When I bought the truck I didn't check to see if it was mounted pre or post turbo. I assumed it was pre because of the readings. Now I dont know if I have a seriously screwed up engine or if my gauge is wrong. Thanks in advance for any comments
I thought that 1100 was the max you want to see on a post turbo gauge?! I would switch out the gauge and snesor first to see if it is just reading bad. If not, look into the engine. Hopefully it is just the gauge, good luck.
you need to find out if it is pre or post turbo, post turbo it will be in the down pipe by the turbo, pre turbo it will be under the truck in the exhaust manifold. if it is post turbo it is very high, if it is pre turbo it is still high(1250 is the pre turbo max you should run). a couple things can make it higher than normal; a clogged or restricted air filter,or a clogged or restricted cat.(if your truck has one). the most common things that make it higher are any restrictions of air comming in or going out.
it is post turbo. I have a tymar air intake that I installed about a month ago filter should be fine. I do have a p0236 fault code which could be caused by restriction. Do you know where I should start to look for restriction and is it going to be obvious. Thanks for the input

my first thought would be if you have a cat that very well could be it, if not maybe the muffler( the stock muffler came apart on an old blazer my dad had and plugged things up good). like i said, a restriction of air in or air out you will have to check the path of both...
something else i thought of, i dont know what your error code is but any malfunction that would cause an overly lean condition in the engine would also heat things up pretty good.
