I have an 1997 ford f-150 with a 5.4lL 35 12.50 on the stock rims but this problem occured with the stock tires also. Sometimes when I apply the brakes they seem to stick not solid but stick enough to really heat up the brakes enough to smell them pretty good and smoke. I would appreciate any help that yall could give me
If it's just the backs then it could be the return spring has weakened and needs replaced ('97s have rear drum don't they).
If it's just the fronts, then your calipars may be starting to go. It would be odd though that they would both start to die at the same time and have the same thing go wrong.
You may also have your master cylinder inspected. It could be letting pressure through even without the brake on.
Hey thanks its just the front break it started out with the left front but it only happened once that was almost a year ago and now all of a sudden I got the right one that is starting to act up. somebody told me it might just be the breakline. Also it only seems to happen after I have to get on the breaks hard.
Is the a check valve or anything in the lines?
Hi and welcome to the forum
Along with what Steve said I would also check the front caliper pins to make sure they move back and forth freely. They are the pins that the caliper mounting bolts attach to and have a rubber boot over them.
Just for information I remember chasing a problem simular to that, but on a chevy 51 many years ago. It turned out to be a steel brake line that had been mashed when the car was transported on a truck. the chains or clamps used then had been hooked anound the line in some way. new line and all was well. Just a thought.
