Service eng now light

I have been frighting a service eng now light. The computer codes are lean both banks. The dealer thought that the engine was not coming up to running temp. It does want to run at 175 deg. The fan clutch was stuck so that the fan was running at all times. He then found a service bullenten about the MAF sensor is bad with both banks indicating lean. The eng does not stall or run funny at all. I have noticed a difference with the light off and when it comes on. The idle also increases and decrease about 200 rpm. This is a 99 F250 with a V10 and 82000 miles. Any body else have this problem and would the MAF sensor couse this?

What difference are you noticing ? I have had a recent service engine soon light, but my truck seems to run better with the light on. I do not have any idle change though, just curious, Ken

MAF? Maybe. But, it seems like it would be much more noticeable.

Could be O2 sensors.

When you say "I have noticed a difference with the light off and when it comes on" What are you talking about? What kind of change/difference?

I guess I echoed Ken on that question...

The notice that it is just alittle slow with the power but runs great. The idle seems ok except for the increase and decrease of about 200 rpm when the engine is idling. The cruise control seems to work smoother with the light on, I notice a sharp drop in rpms when going down a hill with the light off. The engine idles nice and smooth and does seem to run good with the light on. I do wonder I have been getting 16.5 miles to the gal hwy with the light on. Would I hurt anything if I leave it a lone?

The service bullentin was just quoting the lean code from both banks. The repair CD said an oxygen sensor it only one Bank was showing lean. When the computer is reset it will run for about a week to a week and a half till the lite comes on. The lite came on twice with the engine idling at a traffic light. The last time it came on going down the hwy. The accelerator pedal is where you fill the difference with the lite on or off.
Other than the Computer is there another way to turn off the light?

Had a similar problem with mine and after about 7 times to the shop they finnaly found the intake gasket was leaking. $2 gasket fixed the problem after they had already spent $1500 on all the things the codes and service memos said it could be. They found it by pumping smoke back into the vacuum system.

I dunno if it will hurt anything, but I'm having the same symptoms, smoother running, better gas mileage, I can't tell if my rpm's drop at idle since the E-series didn't have a tach option. I'm reluctant to fix whatever is causing the CEL too as I am getting benefits from the light. I wonder if by fixing whatever is causing the light I will go back to the previous way the truck was running, which was good, but not as good, or if it will go to the better, smoother, faster way.
