I got a 59 F100. I'm trying to restore it as much origional as possible. on mine, the front clip, wheel wells and firewall are all black. Is this how they were? Or is any of this supposed to be the color of the truck? Also the trans (a three speed column shift) and driveshaft are painted red. is this the origional color? what about the Shocks? Engine?(a 292) Valve covers? Fan?
Thanks in advance, Cliffhanger
Your firewall should the same color as the cab - it was painted at the factory as one unit then placed on the truck through the assembly line. The inter wheel fenders should be black as well as all the frame and chasis parts.
I beleive that in 59 the engine would still be ford Red, however, I also beleive the transmission should be black - not certain about these things, just going off the original color scheme on mine.
I think Ed is right about the trans as well - I just remembered that mine was rebuilt many years ago and may have been painted black at that time. Red for all the engine parts as well, except generator/Alt, ditributor, starter and few other parts. You can also buy replacment decals for the value covers to match the originals, as well as other reproduction decals for other parts too.
