I have a 1996 F-150 XL with a 4.9 L6 (300) motor with only 20k original miles on it. I have noticed that if im on the freeway and I hit a slight wind or little hill/grade in the road while in 5th gear, that all my lower torque is gone. I have a 40 series flowmaster with 2 1/2 stainless pipes, so I really dont see where that would have hurt my performance, and a K&N air filter.
I was thinking of doing a number of things to improve the overall performance... Diablo chip, clifford headers, switching from a dual cat to a single high flow converter, or intake.
Is my lack of power due to timing/ bad plugs? Or is it just the gear ratio im running on it? Also I was wondering if anyone could tell me if taking off the flowmaster, and putting on a cherrybomb glasspack would help with the performance/loudness of the exhaust.
If anyone could tell me which route would be best in helping the horsepower that would be cool.
