Best intake upgrade?

K&N or some other brand?

Are they all similarly priced?

Will it do me any good with stock exhaust?

I'm in the same boat. I looked at my filter today and found Dirt in the rubber intake tube and Found a Torn place near the clamp. OUCH! Don't know how long it has been sucking trash. I've just owned it 2 weeks. I really hate to drop $200+ for an airfilter.

NOT K&N. They let too much dust in. I have the Tymar and the Ford AIS is also very popular.

Tymar is by far the least expensive and one of the most popular on the websites too. Very easy to install and they work great!

I have a Tymar and love it. Easy to install and low priced. You can go to Tymarperformance.com and email Dale he will hook you up.

Badfish, I have the Ford severe duty AIS. I like it. My stock box had a tab to break and let dirt in also. The Tymar is available from tymarperformance.com (Dale Isley). You can get the Ford AIS for $180.00 at fordpartsnetwork.com. That is the cheapest I've seen. If you are concerned with warranty issues you might want to consider the Ford setup.

I vote for Tymar. $109 for basic, $119 for powdercoated version. New filter elements run $29 from Dale but I understand they can be found for less.

Tymar installed today and gets my vote. Hour install taking my sweet time. You can really hear the extra air that is being flowed.

I agree with what 01Stroker, Oppy, and JohnsDiesel said... I have the AIS intake. I went with it because my truck has a long way to go until it's warranty is up. Had that not been an issue I would have gone with the Tymar. It's an open element filter so you're going to hear the turbo sing. The Tymar is the cheaper option too. The entire setup and replacement filters are cheaper. All depends on what you want.

Does anybody know if the AIS will fit on a '97? I have heard that they only work (or fit actually) on 99.5's on up.

Thanks

Bigred, you are correct, it will not fit the 97. Maybe they will make one someday that will.
