i hooked to our practice sled a lil bit ago to see what gear to pull in and my two front wheels wasnt pullin, i still have the automatic hubs and my theory was they froze up cause i hadnt been in 4 wheel drive in about 8 months, if so how hard is it to switch them to manual hubs, or to clean them and get them loosened up
yes im in the right forum, this truck is a 1 owner truck b4 i baught it, as far as i know i have one of the very few left with the automatic hubs on it, actually i have the only one i know of but yes automatic hubs are on it
yes im in the right forum, its a 79 3/4 ton, it was a one owner truck and he kept it all pretty much original, the lil blue light in the cab still worked that lit up then it was in 4x4., i had never seen that on another one either
Ok...now you have the NP205 transfer case. If you have a NP205, then you should have manual locking hubs. The conversion is pretty simple...and does not take that much time. WARN (premium) hubs are some of the best out there. The instructions that come with the hubs are straight forward and easy to understand. Good luck with your conversion...
TIP: If you haven't ruined your NP205 (probably not), jack the front of the truck up off the ground and put the transfer case in 4H. Now under the truck grab the front drive shaft and try to spin it. What should happen is that you feel a little resistance from the transfer case side. Also, your front wheel should rotate too. If not...then it is the hubs. While in the air...might as well try the 4L too.
biz4two, i done what u said, i jacked it up and the transfer case, i also jacked it up all the way around, started the truck and put it in 4wd, both driveshafts were spinnin but only the back two wheels were, so i guess my next step is puttin hubs on
96-5spd302 -- That does appear to be the problem, the hubs are just not engaging. A new set of part-time hubs...and you should be good to go! Good luck with it...
If it turns out you do have the old fulltime hubs on your truck and not the auto lockers like your stating. You may have more then a hub problem. Because the old style fulltime hubs are stronger then the man. lockout hubs. They just get swapped so better MPG running in 2wd raither the 4wd at all times. I wish you the best on having the auto hubs so you'll almost 100% know thats why 4x ain't workin.
