Trans. Temp?

I just installed a trans temp gauge in my '99 F250 PSD. It has now mods other that some 305 Maxxis tires ant the Ford AIS. The temp read @210* on an easy 10-12 mile drive with no load and no large grades to pull (55-60 mph). This seems high, but I am not sure what temp is considered normal. Anyone have any suggestions?

that seems a little high. mine would run 150-175 around town with no load. it got to 220-230 pulling my camper and boat over some passes last year so i put another cooler on it. it still runs around 150-175 around town but now does not over 200 while towing.

210* - really? That does seem high. What brand gauge do you have?
Before I replace the trans cooler I was getting 150 - 160 normal no load.

I am using Autometer gauges. The trans temp gauge is part# 2640. Thanks for the replies. Just not sure which way to go in resolving this situation. I don't know if I have a bad sensor, gauge, or if my 4r100 is just runnin' hot for some reason.

they will run alittle hot if there is too much trans fluid in them, maybe double check the fluid level...just a thought

when was the last time you had your tranny serviced? Could be time for some new fluid and a filter.

My advice would be to get an aftermarket tranny pan and a tru-cool max tranny cooler. My tranny runs 135-150 no load and 165 -185 pulling a 33ft toyhauler over steep mountain passes that is here in Phx AZ with temps from 95-115. I am very pleased with my set up.

40,000 miles, that cooler that is behind yur license plate is for the powersteering, The tranny cooler is behind the a/c condenser. So no leave it where it is and run the tru-cool in series with it. The larger tranny pan runs about 200.00 bucks and comes with a new filter and all the mounting hardware. For the tru-cool look up dieselsite.com and get the cooler, the tranny pan can be purchased through Hughes performance.
