Engine Econoline V8 problems
I would like to introduce myself,
My name is Cor, am semi-retired and live in the Netherlands (Holland)
I have a Winnebago Chieftain on Chevy P30, which is extremely unusual here, but is very nice to have and use.
Last week I bought a Ford Econoline E150, 1993 with only 150.00 miles (with a V8 engine), which I knew has a few problems. I do not yet have a workshop manual, which is to come from the States, nor do I have an owners/user handbook.
This van runs on propane gas, which is about 33 % of the gasolineprice, the latter being about $ 6 a gallon, so running on propane definately makes sense over here.
I seek the assistance from the 'tech's on this forum which the following:
My problem is that the van will not run on gasoline at all.
This is of some importance, as the engine should start-up on gasoline, and after a few seconds running, change over to LPG; now I start on propane, but with colder weather this could become a problem.
The gasoline tank is 3/4 full. I have checked the fuel safety switch, which is OK, although the voltage to the switch was only about 6-7 Volt; after applying battery jumper to the pump side, I hear the pump running contineously.
I followed the gas pipes and find 2 stainless steel armoured hoses, just above/left of the flywheelhousing, one of these connected to the manifold tube which supplies the gas injectors.
On the left bank, there is a Schraeder valve on the gas manifoldpipe, which, when depressed shows gasoline pressure present.
This is as far as I could go without any further documentation.
Question: What next? The engine runs perfectly on propane, and the fault is definately not in the engine itself, but in the gas-fuel system.
Anything I can do without special equipment?
By the way, which digit of the VIN number indicates the engine? The VIN number 8th digit is a "N". The 11th digit is a "H" . I understand that the N indicates 5.o liter and the H a5.8 liter. Which digit do I look for?
I fope that someone has the time and know-how to give me some guidance, or alternatively, give me a hint to another section in this forum, where I could post this message.
Any comments are welcome.
Kind regards,
Cor
