How Do I wire this?

My '66 Merc M100 is a base model with no radio in it.

I want to install a stereo...just something very simple like a cd/receiver and two 6x9's behind the seat, with a sub.

Question is...where do I draw the power for the deck? Is it simple enough to tackle on my own?? I'm pretty mechanically inclined, but have no experience with electrical as of yet.

Thank you for your help!

Use a test light, with the key in the accessory position, at the fuse block. Find a circuit that is energized then remove that fuse. One end will be hot the other not hot or "ground". They make clips for tapping off the fuse block or you can strip your wire and put it in the fuse clip then put in the fuse. Anyway connect the hot wire for the deck to the "ground" end of the fuse.

Thanks for your feedback cobraguy.

I finished the install rather quickly and from the outside you can't even tell that there is even a sound system in there at all...stock is still where it's at!

The deck fit rather nicely into the glove box, and I cut out two door panels out of plexiglass to mount 6x9 pioneer three ways into. Next, I mounted two 6x9 speaker boxes in the rear floor corners where the gas tank was and placed a sub between them.

My actual wiring went well once I got my hands on a test light. I tapped into the lighter for my 'constant' 12V and tapped into the wiper lead for the 'accessory' 12V.

With a remote for volume etc, I don't even have to open the glove box so there's no flash for folks to look at and steal!

I'm going to post some pics of the install, as well as my gas-tank relocate as soon as I can.

Keep in mind, the 61-66 doors let water in. The glass channels are just felt. You should put the speakers in some sort of enclosures in the doors or use waterproof speakers.

Oh -- thanks for not cutting up the original door panels -- you may thank yourself someday.

Good advice cdherman!

I actually bought a pair of 'baffles' that are covers for my 6x9's, the speakers slip into them and I put silicone around the edges. They are only $7 each and are made of plastic so I know they will provide a good watertight seal when I am done with them!
