I took a trip from eastern CO to eastern OK and back this weekend and here are the results. First I am very, very happy with the 6.0!!!
The truck is stock and pulled like a dream. The gross weight of the truck, trailer combo (see gallery of horse trailer) FULLY loaded was 22420 lbs.
On the way to OK traveling at 67 MPH average I got 11.7 hand calculated MPG. The return trip was averaging in the mid to upper 70s for MPH and the milage dropped to 10.1 MPG.
As some side notes the tranny is great at braking from about 50 mph and lower. And yes I did still have engine braking above that . I had originally thought the latest flash took that away but it did not.
I just returned from a 3,226 mile ten day roadtrip from Ogden, Utah to Northern Minnesota through the Black Hills both ways. No tow load. Estimated total weight of the vehicle at 8,100 lbs. My 03 F250 CC 6.0 performed flawlessly through torrential downpours (within 15 miles of two tornados) and constant high winds. The entire trip average fuel economy was 17.1 mpg. This includes about 150 miles of city driving. I was at 18.4 mpg for the first 650 miles until the big South Dakota storm. My family is amazed with the comfortable ride and the awesome power to pass slower traffic. Great trip! Only advice: Always have lodging reservations when going through the Black Hills during the summer tourist season.
