I had some front end body work done to my 97 Explorer and since then, my interior light does not come on when the door is open. My "your lights are on" idiot beep does not sound either when it should. I imagine the door open sensor on the driver side front door has been blocked somehow - but I cannot, for the life of me, find the thing. Anyone have any idea where it is?
One of Fords "better ideas" was to move the switch from the door jamb- where they never gave any problems- to the door latch. Try spraying it with some WD-40 & see if that frees it up.
I've got the same problem if we're talking about the sensor for opening the door with the headlights still on (already flattened my battery once with this). On a 99 4.0 would the sensor be on the latch on the door or on the latch on the door frame?
Mine's a UK right-hand-drive and a warning buzzer does sound when the passnger side (left) door is opened if the engine is still running. Do all Explorers do this or is this a result of factory right-hand-drive conversion?
I notice that both sun visors have illuminated vanity mirrors on the back (but I don't use mine much ). Perhaps this is also a 'leftover' from left to right-hand -drive factory conversion?
Well, I put about a half can of wd-40 in my door latch w/ no luck. I suppose next order of buisness is to take the panel off and figure out where the sensor is within the latch.
I've taken the door panel off and I have no clue where this sensor might be. Christ I thought this was going to be an easy fix! I seem to have lost my Haynes manual in my recent move so I'll pick up a new one and hopefully find some information there. Anyone else have any ideas?
