Question Oven Cleaner

Is It Ok To Clean Motor with Oven Cleaner?

No, it is caustic, and will peel the paint off the engine, can damage rubber or plastic parts. Use Gunk, it's designed to clean the engine.

That depends if you like the motor or not. If you've had oil leaks and have a lot of residue to remove, do like ggarrahan says. If you are just cleaning road grime, gunk sells a light duty product, or something mild like Simple Green cut down will do.

I'm pretty sure the Simple Green label says, 'degreaser'.

mmmmm simple green. Anyone else had to scrub their truck with that stuff to get tar off? no?
But it (simple green) WILL get grease out of carpet if you spend enough time with it...
Grease, spaghetti stains, coke... you name it...
I do love my simple green.

Along with what has been said, oven cleaner will make all of your aluminum parts ugly due to a chemical reaction.

I use oven cleaner on cast iron or steel parts after I have taken the motor apart and I am repainting the block. It's bad for aluminum though, real bad since it's a caustic.
