I am pulling the engine on my 67 f-100 with a 352, I have done it once before on this truck, but the first time I pulled the transmission out with the motor, well this time, I would like to leave the transmission in the truck, so I was wondering if I can disconnect the transmission from the bellhouseing, and pull the transmission spline out from the clutch and flywheel, while still leaving the clutch, flywheel and bellhousing connected to the motor? do i just pull backwards on the transmission or what? has anyone done this before?
Yes, as a matter of fact, this makes life a whole lot easier, in my opinion. It is especially easier to line the clutch up properly when installing it back onto the flywheel.
I removed the driveline, shift linkages and bolts. I also removed the transmission cross member bolts. Then, I pushed the cross member to the rear with my feet while supporting the front of the transmission as it came out of the bellhousing. Once it was out, I let it rest on the intermediate cross member, and left it there while pulling the engine.
Lee and Banjo are right. I use a jack under the front of the tranny to angle it slightly then pull the engine forward and up. I find setting it back is easier this way because I adjust the jack up/down to match my engine angle at the mate.
