As stated, I have a 1990 Ford Aerostar. I put gas in it 4 days ago. Made it about 1 mile and the thing started to stall. I managed to pull into a parking lot and then it died. Went and got a new fuel filter even though I replaced the one on there about 2 months ago. Pulled the line off the filter and had my friend crank it over. Lots of gas from the pump. Changed the fuel pressure regulator. Still didn't want to start. Took off the idle air control valve off (i'm assuming thats what it is, or so I was told, it has a plunger screwed to a piece that has two rods inside) and cleaned it. Couldn't keep it running. Had a tow home and finally can get it started now but there is a bad gas smell inside and out of the van. See gas coming out of the exhaust pipe. I noticed that the old fuel pressure regulator did not have a gasket on it nor did the new one. The thing does not have a maf sensor on it. Can't find the egr valve anyware. It idles really rough and if i try and floor it it boggs down and dies. Any suggestions on what else to try? It has 163,000 miles and is a 3.0. I have been having problems with this van in the past. Have posted other problems such as the engine shuddering after about 50mph when it shifts into overdrive. Hit the brake shuddring quits. Hit the gas, shuddering quits. Any time out of overdrive no jerking or shuddering. The tow truck driver said it sounded like i had water in the gas and recomended a half a bottle of alcohol. No change. I put some water remover in it from the part store and also a bottle of injector cleaner in it. Still the same crap. Thanks for the advice.
Haven't tried the fuel pressure test yet. Why would there be such a strong odor of gas if it was bad? Never had this problem before. Thanks for the input.
