72 f100 rear diff. question

72 f100 rear diff. question

I am trying to figure out what type rear diff. I have. My vin code says 02 and the tag on the diff. says
WDM-AG 2AD
3 00 9 343A
any input is appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

The tag says you have an open (non-locking) Ford 9 inch rear with a 3.00 ratio.

thanks for the quick reply!! Is this a good rear end for a daily driver or is it more geared for towing or what?? I don't know exactly what gears are for what application.

Geared for daily driver and good gas mileage. Might be a good rear end for a 460 though it is probably too high for a 302 in an old truck. Towing should be at least 3.50 with 3.73 and 4.10 being much better. Then again, if all you tow is a 1500 pound 4x8 trailer it probably does not matter much.
