Is this possible. I got a 96 460 EFI that had an E4OD behind it and I'm wanting to put a stick behind it. Am I going to run into driving problems because of having an E4OD computer in there or should i try to find a Stick computer?
The motor is going into a 1978 F250. The transmisssion is a NP435.

you can keep your computer. if you were going stick to auto you would have to change it. i went from AODE to stick & have an auto comp. the only thing you have to do is either use a tranny that has provisions for a neutral safety switch or take the sensor off of your tranny & leave the switch in neutral.

In My Ranger i've got a 5.0 with a computer that came from an AOD. It works so i know what your saying is true. the thing that concerns me is the fact that the computer controlls when the tranny is to shift.
Yea but he has the E4OD, which is controlled by the computer. Wont it spaz out when it’s not getting any feedback? I’m not saying you can’t try but if it doesn’t work you’re going to have to get one for you application .
I know it has been done with 5.0's and 5.8's, so, I don't see why it wouldn't work with a 460.
If you were trying to run an E4OD truck with a stick computer, you' never get anywhere...
But, running a stick truck with an E4OD comp shouldn't be a problem. might get a CEL, but, I don't think it'll be a big problem.

So you know people who have run 5.0 and 5.8's using an E4OD computer with a stick behind it?
I'm just trying make sure i understand what your saying.
I tend to agree with you i'm just hoping somebody has tried an E4OD comp on a Stick.
If you really want your engine to run correctly and not have a constant CEL, get the correct computer. Sure it will run the engine, but not the way it is designed to do.
i have a lightning mass air comp running a tremec 5speed the only code i get is high speed in park. the reason is because on the tranny i had to move the shifter forward so i lost use of the neutral safety switch so i had to leave the auto wiring in to get the truck to start. if you use a ford tranny w/the harness that goes to it w/the safety hooked up you will be fine.
Hey, just found this thread again. How'd it work out John Deere Ranger? I've been haveing the same idea for when my E4OD goes out, got 268,000 on her currently.
yea it works.... I just don't use any of the wires for the E4OD I've got bout 600 miles on it now with some real ****ty gas mileage...... Like under 10.....
